Happy Mardi Gras

Happy Mardi Gras 2016! Mardi Gras (French for Fat Tuesday) actually begins on Twelfth Night, January 6, and continues nonstop until the day before Ash Wednesday. The date of Mardi Gras ties to Easter and varies each year. I personally love this holiday because I’ve been celebrating it since high school in French class.  Every year the French students would have a huge celebration and bring traditional Mardi Gras food.  It was always something nice to look forward to.  Now that I’m older the real Mardi Gras partying can happen! 10991451_1019522454744462_1457440990267243395_n                       Here are some tips on having the best Mardi Gras experience in New Orleans or any major city having a celebration: 1. Get an early start It’s always a smart idea when attending a parade or public street fair to arrive early to secure a good spot. 2. Dress the part Of course it’s important to look the part but the weather always has a huge impact on wardrobe as well. Make sure you check the local weather and dress accordingly. 3. Forget about driving This is mainly for people partying in New Orleans but the entire French Quarter is closed off for vehicle traffic unless you're driving a float or your car is in the parade with a krewe. It’s best to plan a walking route and make sure you wear comfortable shoes! 12705724_1226197550743617_1419584821066870540_n                 If you have any tips from your own Mardi Gras experiences be sure to tweet to me @JaimieHilfiger
